about
Three cheers to overcoming fears. The idea for this song came to me while standing in an endless stream of scooters on a street in Hanoi, about the weird feeling of expecting some kind of transformation from travelling halfway across the world, getting swept up in a different world, then having a humbling moment hit you with it quite unexpectedly. The chant "mot hai ba yo!" means cheers but translates more literally to "1 2 3 drink!" which seemed more fitting as a call to count down and jump into whatever life sends your way.
lyrics
Searching for a break in the motorcade
Stepping out, stepping back
Baby, nothin's safe
Searching for a sign that this is the way
Stepping up, stepping down
Step away
Gimme a sign
Just watch what I'll be doing with it
Have a good time
But don't get caught up in the current
Easier said than done
Mot hai ba yo!
Should I wait or should I go?
Mot hai ba yo!
Crossed the world
Can't cross the road
Searching for a break in the motorcade
Stepping out, stepping back
Baby, nothin's safe
Searching for a sign that this is the way
Stepping up, stepping down
Step away
Gimme a sign
Just watch what I'll be doing with it
Have a good time
But don't get caught up in the current
Easier said than done
Mot hai ba yo!
Should I wait or should I go?
Mot hai ba yo!
Crossed the world
Can't cross the road
